A heavy, hand wrought, sterling silver losenge shape tray. This stylish, clean and high quality tray can be accommodated by the most modern home. The tray features a fine lip, with a clean, rolled finish running along the organically shaped edge. It runs alittle higher into each opposing corner. The plain aesthetic can lend itself for many uses throughout any home. It is perfect for an entry way table or sideboard or a center piece on a dining, or coffee table.
One can see all of the hand struck hammer marks taken to meticulously hand shape these beautiful works of art. It is easy, when looking at silver pieces such as these to imagine that they were stamped out. So many items of silver during the twentieth century were made this way. Hand made pieces of art like this are wrought from meticulous shaping and hammering from sheets of flat silver. It is a labour of love and a skill that very few posses today.
The tray was made in Mexico, and has a full series of hallmarks on its base.It is marked with Perlita, and M.R.R for the maker. Perlita was a high end retailer based in Mexico City that sold a number of domestic made high quality sterling homewares and jewellery. The maker M.R.R has not been identified. It is also marked Taxco. Taxco de Alarcón is a small city located in the north-central part of the Mexican state of Guerrero, 106 miles southwest of Mexico City. The city is heavily associated with the crafting of silver into jewelry, silverware and was home to the majoroty of Mexico's finest artisans.
The tray is presented in superb condition having recently been polished. It size at over sixteen and a half inches long by six and a half inches at its widest point lends itself to be both useful and decorative in equal measure.
